Since YEP's inception, our goal of training officers has been at the forefront of our work. Now, program encompasses the many layers of work at hand to transform policing as we know it. Our Program Initiatives is directly informed by our other two initiatives, CommunityandPolicy.
Our training is driven by years of research and countless community input.
In our research, we evaluate the efficacy of our trainings and the any change officers display through macro-data.
There is a host of valuable resources and networks YEP has been able to foster over the years in Portland. As we hold and grow those resources, Portland, and its officers have come particular far in comparison to other cities. As we expand, Portland has been a source of knowledge and will forever be our pilot city.
We are currently working with community leaders in Chicago and Philadelphia to build coalition and take our work to new frontiers as policing becomes evidently more invested in the needs of the community. YEP will work tirelessly to create transformative change alongside those most impacted.
After holding our training in three separate cities, the goal is to utilize the same model of evaluation across the three cities through a survey-interview process and a sample population of the police force to critically examine the efficacy of our training and its value with officers of a variety of backgrounds.
Impact over Intent
Over the following years, and even before finishing the training, YEP will conduct a variety of inquries into the data of PPB, CPD, and PPD to determine if what we presented holds and ground in the officers and in the community. This will help us determine if community-based intervention in policing works as we continue to grow.
Through our Community Initiative, we use the insight of the community to serve as the foundation of our trainings. This may be in the context of the scenario build-out, dialogue used, or even their participation in the training.
Our work is driven by research mentioned above but also the insight of those same individuals who are always important to back up our work and support for those who need the numbers, data and research.
